High-Way 5: Honest Communication -- Send and Receive the Highest Truth
On a roadmap to Happiness and Success, everyone has to travel High-Way #5 -- Honest Communication. We are communicating almost every minute of every day -- either by listening or speaking. This highway will help you look back on communication experiences that felt good (95ing) and those that did not (5ing) and become aware of the good feelings and rewards of Honest Communication.
Communication comes from two words: common and union. When we honestly communicate, we unite with our highest selves and feel closer to those around us-even when we don't agree. Honest Communication is defined as speaking your truth in a fully responsible and respectful way, and listening with respect and compassion to the thoughts and feelings of others. The biggest concept about this High-Way was that HONESTY WITH OTHERS STARTS WITH HONESTY ABOUT OURSELVES!! Once we start to see ourselves more clearly, we're ready to be honest with others. The main cause of anger is feeling disrespected, which I never thought of, but agree 100% with. No matter what triggered the anger in the first place, listening from the heart is the balm that calms. Destructive criticism is always disrespectful, but constructive criticism can be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteVery good Trish, this chapter was also insightful for me. The deep listening, and being honest with ourselves before we can be honest with others is so good. Also, living with integrity. "Doing what you say you will do when you say you will do it." Imagine if we could always live this, and teach it to our kids and students!!!!!!!! WOW! Lots of good things, and I love how this book is making me really look at myself!
